Most definaetly we do,and its the same names time and time again.I have remained quiet on the ask questions front simply because of that reason.Bullying takes all forms, direct and indirect,i have observed direct attacks upon you and when this happens i have to become involved.I myself have been accused of the most vile attacks on the pm system simply because i have been open and honest about myself. Then there are those bullies who have to pick up upon any error in spelling of grammor, with the baggage i have carried all my life i have stood up to all forms of bullying and intend to become more active on this site once again, best wishes to all you bullies,Garvan.
Of course there are bullies here.
What is particularly unfortunate is that many of them don't realize they are responsible for their bullying behavior, and will never come clean and admit to their horrible habits.
So there's no room for "interpretation" on this one.
You are either a harassing, negative, bullying person who throws their weight around and threatens, or you are kind, caring and supportive - there isn't much middle ground for many people here, I think...
Bullying requires the presence of physical threat, or at a minimum the sense of the victim's intense emotional pain that the bully gets from public humiliation; very difficult, but not impossible to do in an "anonymous" electronic forum. Given this, I don't think any bullying is happening here on EP, just the occasional insensitive a$$hole. By the way: I HATE YOU! (not really)
no I don't think there is, the reason being that we have the ability to block and flag people.
Sean is the biggest bully ever.
If he gives you any more grief
(I will run off)
EP allows you to block any bullies.
Mystic Meerkat is always real friendly:)
I have seen some very rude non-caring comments here, I guess if the poster received a lot of negative comments, some individuals would call it bullying.
Oh yes, we do, absolutely - not naming names though!
Ooo me! I'm one!
Give me your dinner money now......!
What's a smurf ?
This is what I think based on my observations.
Sensitive is one thing, ultra-sensitive is another. The latter have yet to figure out that the electrical world is not different from the physical world. They come to places like EP feeling hurt and looking for sympathy -- that's okay. There are plenty of folks who are helpful and understanding.
However, they assume that everyone out here is like that, so when the less careful or the outright trollish poke them with a stick, they cry. Out loud and in electrical public. This incenses all involved, and we see the threats of suicide, etc.
In the physical world, they hide, and that is actually a smart thing. They should carry with them into the electrical world the sense of self-preservation that protects them in the physical world.
The electrical world is not a lovely heaven where everyone loves everyone and we all get along. The trolls are here like they are everywhere else. They can get the same benefits from electrical world that anyone else can.
Therefore, one should always maintain some level of wariness when out here. Oftentimes, when you are offended or even attacked, you can and should resort to similar behaviors that allow you to survive in the physical world.
One thing you can do in electrical world that you can not do in physical world is stop. In a sense, you can benefit from altering time. In the physical world confrontation, you must find a solution right now. In the electrical world, you can freeze time. You can either log out or you can stop communicating and simply watch. This allow you the chance to breathe, go throw up, get a drink, or whatever. Whatever you do, you are no longer in the game. You have time to figure things out. You have time to decide if you even want to participate at all.
Having said that, about the level of bullying: It is no more a major problem now than it was a couple of years ago. The difference is that the news groups are pumping it up like never before. This is what they do because they want revenues more than they want to report the news.
Bullies are always everywhere, fact of life.
Yes, there are bullies here, also.
Either delete them, or block them, or
Just stand up on your own 2 feet, and discuss it privately, ,you just might wind up being able to work it our yourselves.
Peza, here, I will disagree with you, Sean is not a bully, he gave me back my lunch money.
i haven't seen any. How do you define a cyber bully ?
The teletubbies are the real problem!!! I think that EP is just like RL - it has bullies and victims and sometimes people are a bit of both, hopefully mostly neither. One thing to be said for EP over RL: 'blocking' someone is much more effective than trying to do the same thing in RL!!!
