wow umm who gave "the rest of the world" the right to judge that in the first place?! maybe the "white people" should have kept to themselves in the first place and we never would have f***ed them up to the point where they had any issues governing themselves! why the hell does everyone think the "american way" is the only freaking way? are all white people happy?? uhh NO in fact i lived in a third world country for 2 yrs and everyone there was much happier and more grateful for what they have than any WHITE person i know! and yes i am white but i dont understand how the color of someones skin has any influence on who they are or what they are good at whether its building huts or running a country!

Quite frankly I don't think it matters what color is governing a country. That's not what makes it better or worse off. We have a black president and he's screwing stuff up just as bad as all the white ones we've had. As far as I'm concerned the world as a whole is all jacked up. =)

i do not think you can ask a question and then limit the answer to people who agree to do research.
Anyway I certainly do believe that South Africa is better off than when it was governed by white people. Africa is the poorest continent in the world so life there is not easy but South Africa is now a light not a a pariah.

Dear Apolo - some services have deteriorated, but then again its always easier to cater for fraction of the entire population than entire population. At least now we can try to build a a more just society. On a day to day basis - on an interpersonal level - I interact in a meaningful way with different people - I love being an African because despite my European ancestors I am an African! khotso

I know something about the South African situation, as far as I know little has changed for the poorest.

What I think is that getting rid of the appartheid was a prerequisite for the next step that has not yet been taken: getting the social structure of the country up and running. South Africa has a chance of becoming a strong nation in this world and a superpower in Africa, if they get that right.

As former Dutch colony, independence also might have come too soon with the wounds of the boer war not yet healed. This also happened in Indonesia, but didn't in Curacao.

What I think South Africa needs is democratic communism, but without American or any other nation's economic and political blockades. That system is designed to get a poor country up and going, with the poorest getting less poor (on expense of the rich). Unfortunately all communist countries, except for China, have had enormous troubles their entire existence because of American military, economical and political opposition.

Just there does not exist apartheid...thats all there is to it now.
