DTV Takeover: worth keeping an analog set?

Roommate and I don't pay for cable and probably won't for the foreseeable future. I have an OLD junker of a TV that I got for free that is huge and worth nothing. Can no longer "sorta" get channels through the air so it's mostly just a box.

Is it worth to keep it around to play DVDs on or is my computer enough if I go buy a decent pair of speakers?

Would help tidy up my room and clear up allot of space but I'm not sure, it seems so strange!

Just get a converter box, and UHF/VHF antenna. And I do think it is worth keeping just for dvds.

Depending where you live, it might really be worth it to get the converter box and a good antenna. You may be able to get channels you couldn't before.

All the same, you can also get a digital tv tuner attachment for your computer and eliminate the TV altogether.

can't you get that converter? i think you can get one for about $40. a friend of mine was holding out until the last possible moment and i'm waiting to hear what has happened with his TV. i think he'll give in and call the cable company... then again, he can listen to yankee games on the radio... so i guess it doesn't matter.

I am in the same position you are in...old tv, new system. I am keeping mine for the simple fact that I still use it to play my taped movies and dvd's on it. Besides, with all of the problems with this new digital system....who knows that analog wont come back? After all, it worked for over 60 years and with very little problems. It is my opinion that the govt. should never have "forced" this digital system down our throats in the first place. Still too many problems with it.
