Dating a friend's ex. how wrong is it, what if its true love?

relates to previous question i asked 'madly deeply in love' more info there on the story, but i just want to know how bad is this... surely no one wants to love a friend's ex but if it happens, what is the best way forward.

check out previous question because its really bothering me... i need some answers here lol!!

the friend is extremely irrational, and is already screaming that i have betrayed her and all she knows is that he is in love with me. we have discussed going out with exes many times and its a complete 'no - no' ultimate betrayal. i understand. i would be the same really but it doesn't make it any easier.

btw i am not dating him, i am in love with him but i have refused to get into it because i just cant see past it it will cause my friend too much pain and i would never want to do that to her. all three of us were friends before and this was not intentional at all. i am no longer in contact with him.

JulySunSoul	Posted Aug 17th, 2009 at 9:04AM i imagine it could be awkward! its a bit of an unwritten rule not to date friends ex's, but sometimes love can be unpredictable. i think you probably need to at least speak to your friend about it. be gentle though because if you imagine you were in their shoes, you would probably not be all that happy either. londongothgirl	Posted Aug 17th, 2009 at 9:05AM I personally don't understand the 'rules of dating' that people seem to have. I don't really understand why your not supposed to date a friends ex. They are no longer with them, so what's the problem? Perhaps you too will get along better and yes what if it turns into love. I don't see why you should deny yourself the chance of love. rob57	Posted Aug 17th, 2009 at 9:18AM Unfortunatley I think one or both of you must have done something to get the fire going. If he would have respected the relationship he was in. Or if you would have respected your friend and her relationship this probably would have never happened. Sounds to me like you and him may deserve one another you are obviously alike. geenpunchbuggie	Posted Aug 17th, 2009 at 9:20AM it is wrong, definitely. there are no questions about it. if it is that worth it to you to be with this person, you should consider the friendship over. in addition, don't be alarmed when your former friend is acting in a way that you deem "irrational". she is going through a period of loss.
