Oooh, you all have such good choices! I say: What everybody else says! But add Pink Floyd into the mix. Moe Zart is cool too. I'm pretty eclectic. Heck, seeing Rolf Harris live would be nothing to walk out on either. Scarlatti and Scriabin would fit well betwixt Hendrix and Queen! I just can't pick only one. And of course, being a UKer, I'm sure you know that you began your question with the name of a now defunct UK band founded by a native UKer and ardent transvestite with a tragic history of botched plastic surguries? Yep, Dead or Alive (Pete Burns; You Spin Me Round)

Duke Ellington and his orcestra from the middle to late 1950s. The band was mature and powerful and they had some exceptional singers at that time.

Great question!! - Hands down, The Beatles. Next would be Elvis, The Doors and Frank Sinatra. Finally Janis Joplin.

So many. Charlie Parker...Ella fitzgerald...Nirvana...The Who (all of them)
However, flat out winner would have to be Jimi Hendrix. No human being has ever been able to create that noise since, I doubt they ever will.

The original Mountain line-up: Felix Pappalardi (dead now), Leslie West, Corky Laing, and Steve Knight (not sure if he's still alive, read years ago he had some very serious degenerative disease)

The Doors. No questions asked. Or Lynyrd Skynyrd with the entire band. Or Led Zeppelin... Wish they could tour
