Did anybody else in Melb, Aus just get a fire warning text message from Victoria Police? !?

Yes. Telstra and the Victoria Police are working together to try this new system, to keep people alert about potential high fire risk days, and high fire risk areas.
You need to check with your local ABC radio station to keep abreast of severe fire warnings for your area, and if you may need to evacuate.
There is an extreme fire risk coming, with high winds forecast, and fires already burning that may become uncontrollable again.
If you are in a heavily forested area with high fire risk, you need to have a plan on where you will evacuate to, if a wind change brings a big bushfire in your direction.

As said above it was just those on the Telstra mobile network. I am with Vodaphone and didn't get the message, but I noticed that others who are with Telstra did. It's a good idea and I'm glad that they are doing it instead of just talking about it.

yeah i did just before i checked my messages and saw vic police and though what have i done wrong but the thing is i have never been in trouble with the police at all so i dont know why i though that but yes i did get it.....

gosh how scary....im in northern NSW and we were flooding ...i've never seen the rivers so high....but the water has gone for now....but the fires are just so horrible .....i hope you are all ok keep me informed please....
i lived in western vic for awhile ...left 15 years ago cos it wouldn't stop raining ....i believe vic has been in drought for the past 12 years...how it must have changed
it was so damp my son and i got bad bronchial problems and had to move back up north
different now 15 years later
