Did I over react?

I took my kids out for dinner at ourlocal club while there I noticed a man watching my daughter, he watched her going to toilet, he watched go to the food service area, he watched her eating. I went over to him and asked why he was watching her, he said he could'nt help himself she was so pretty, I said she is 7rs old you freak. Got the kids and left on the way out I complained to bar staff who told me not to worry they would take care of it. did I make too much out of it?, he made the hair on my neck stand up (creepy).

Maybe, but I say trust your gut. Mothers just have an instinct, don't ignore it. The penalty for failure is high.

The thing is, it's a very double narrow edged sword. You didn't overreact, you did what any mother would have done, but it could have been as innocent ans it could have been malicious.

Well, if I had been the chap, I would have been just enjoying the sight of such innocent beauty - not perving. And I would have got quite a shock to be spoken to like that. "A cat can look at a Queen?" Not any more, it seems!

I understand where you're coming from. But its good that you didn't get physical with him - it might have ended in a big fight for you... He could easily take that as an unprovoked attack, especially if he were a little drunk. I think one needs to be careful with that sort of thing.

You may have over reacted. And these answers of reacting even more, I find amazing. Is there a possibility that this man had evil motives for looking at your daughter? I supposed any thing is possible. But you have no idea what was going through his mind. Imagine if this had been a woman. If she had looked at your daugher a number of times while you were there, would you have attacked her? What if he was innocently thinking about how cute and sweet little kids are? I think that, does that make me dangerous? What if she reminded him of his own daughter? And when you walked up to him and asked him why are you looking at my daughter, I can see where the first thing out of his mouth would have been what he said. He was being confronted by an angry person. He probably thought it would be nice to say, you have a pretty little girl. Again, if a woman had said that, would you have reacted the same? This man did nothing more than look at her. There are many times in public that I will see a child and thing they are adorable. And I've never counted, but what if during the course of dinner, I glanced at them 3 or 4 times? If I were a man reading your question, and these answers, I would be thinking that I'd better not look at a child in public or people will think I'm a child molester. And someone giving you a bad "feeling" doesn't really amount to much. Unless you are a mind reader, a "feeling" isn't proof of anything. An appropriate reaction would have been to sit there and enjoy dinner with your kids or if this "feeling" was too much for you, take your kids and go home. To attack someone when they did nothing wrong, especially when you know you would not have reacted this way if it had been a woman, was over reacting and I'm sure by the time you were done with him, the whole place was probably suspicious of him, and for what? If you are going to assume any man who looks at your daughter is dangerous, you should keep her at home and never take her in public.

It would be good if the staff got his name, in the event something horrid happens because of him.

Jesus! He actually admitted he found your 7 year-old daughter pretty and that's why he was watching her?!

URGH! I think that says something about this guy. He obviously thinks that what he did and said was OK. Very dangerous!

Oh I don't think you made enough noise !

I'd have had the manager pay a visit to our table and witness it for himself and then I would have demanded the man be removed from the club

No you did not, better to be safe than sorry, always follow your gut feeling and better to be over protective when it comes to your children. I understand how you feel. It's rude to stare anyhow.

i don't know really , you can sense it anyway , if a person is staring at your kid in a dirty way then you didn't .there was an old man before who approached my daughter when she was playing outside and she was with me , i thought the old man was just appreciating my kid's pretty face but then he opened his fly and told my 3 y/o daughter (then) to suck his c#ck , was so mad i called the cops .

You can never be too careful these days! All sorts of pervs out there. Not over reacting, good parenting. Also, make sure she understands that there are unfortunately people out there like this and that she should not mistake their attentions.
