Did I shaft my sister?

My sister was having a July 4th bbq. and I decided not to go. You see my sister and I often chat on MySpace but had never sent me a e-mail inviting me to the bbq. I visited my mother earlier today and she related the invitation to me and I considered this a rather weak way of inviting someone to a party. If my mother lived with my sister I could understand mother inviting me to the party but she doesn't.

To me it felt like my sister actually didn't want me there but told my mother to invite me knowing I would decline. I mean my sister could of said something to me on myspace. SO did I shaft her or did she snub me?

She just figured you would know and come to it. If there had been a fight or some problem before, I could understand your point...I don't think it was handled very well at all.She should have invited you, herself.

I wish I had a sister, and a mother who could ask me to a bbq on her behalf!

I really do not know the answer.

Wow... I almost forgot what sisters are like sometimes until I read this post... lol. I have two older sisters and I can totally see them having this same conversation when most likely it was a completely innocent coincidence... the four brothers on the other hand we would just tell one of us knowing he would tell the other 2 and all 4 of us would show up...

Dear may be there is some misunderstanding. In blood relations just be open and share your feeling with her. If you still feel that she intentionally did not call you for bbq then let me tell you better way of revenge.
Arrange bbq at your place invite her, give her really deep respect and win her heart. If she intentionally did not invite you on her bbq will tell you and feel sorry other wise understand that there may be little misunderstanding.
Its usual in bros and sis so forgive and forget it.

Yes, you did. Frankly, you acted like a bit of a twit. This is family - you don't need an engraved invitation. Life gives us enough crap to deal with, don't imagine offense where none was intended.

If you both are kind and on speaking terms there was no reason for you not to go. It's family I'm sure she just expected you to come and I'm sure she was somewhat upset that you didn't show with out giving any reasoning. My sister and I always fight we about got in to a fist fight not to long ago and we would of without a doubt if she hadn't been pregnant. Of course if she had had a party with in the same week I would of begrudgingly gone out of respect for her or if she had told me not to come i would of went out of spite =].

So either way you should of went =]
