Divorcees...?

Do you agree with recent findings that divorce causes permanent health problems? Is it the divorce itself, or the court proceedings that attend the divorce? Thoughts?

It depends from each divroce.Im going through a divorce now and im healthier and happier because i got out of a high stress marriage in which i was getting regular beatings. If you dont want the divorce then it can be very scarey and hard and you can get depressed and sick. But if you want the divorce then its not always as bad. Personally im happy to leave everything behind just to get out with my life. Each divorce is different. Divorces are like fingerprints, no 2 are the same.

I would suspect that staying in an unsatisfactory marriage actually causes more health problems. At the very least, it can be proven to cause boredom, stagnation, and resentment, all of which can have real physiological effects.

This is part of the stigma that the word "divorce" has. It commonly carries connotations of "the end", "death" and "failure" rather than "the beginning", "rebirth" and "opportunity". If someone believes in the first set, they are probably more likely to develop unhealthy symptoms, almost exclusively psychosometic. If they believe in the second persepective, they are more likely to overcome existing health problems and feel rejuvenated and "younger". Also, almost exclusively psychosomatic.

The example you cite is yet another great method of keeping unhealthy people in unhappy marriages, just because "god" or someone else might get pis$y.

I don“t think it causes permanent health problems.
You just end up with a bruised and broken heart but time and hindsight make everything better.

I think it is some of column a and some of column b. I know that my mom was seriously sick and scared during her divorce. She wanted total custody of my siblings and me and was worried my dad would get it. There are alot of things to worry about in a divorce and it can lead to high stress and sickness.

It is emotionally draining. I have lost 15 pounds and dropped 2 dress sizes. Thats a good thing but not the way its happened. I cant eat or sleep. Cant stop crying - Dr put me on antidepresents but am having side affects with those. So I do believe that the stress or a Divorce can cause health problems.
