I've came up with more blasphemous substitutes like "**** christ" or "jesus ***********"

All of the atheists I know say "oh my God" or even "oh your God." I agree with mzdivine in that there is nothing religious in that statement since it has become synonymous with "oh my goodness."

I think "Thank God" is a little different though. Who exactly are you talking to when you say that?? I've always wondered, but always been afraid to ask.

Surely MORE atheists than Christians use those terms as it is written in the Christians' scripture that the Christians mustn't use those words like that: "thou shalt not take His name in vain" or something like that.
My favourite is "Christ on a bike!" meaning "I am surprised"

Yes. I do. I also swear to god to signify truth. Whats more I damn things, which wouldn't be possible without religion.

Sure.
I was always lead to believe that it was blasphemous to use such phrases in general conversation.

Yes, they do. And I am one of them. I recently wrote a book (just recently picked up for publication by a traditional book publisher) about new and revolutionary discoveries in the Bible that is poised to turn the world of religion as we know it on its ear. Yet, even despite all I know about religion and it's ancient inception from the realm of the mythological, I still do it. Not because I believe in it, but because they are euphemisms. But in case you wondered: yes! There are indeed, atheists in foxholes.

I used to, but lately I find myself saying "Oh my gatos!", a phrase I picked up while tutoring Spanish-speaking adults, many of whom were religious and easily offended by OMG.

It doesn't offend anyone. Everyone believes in gatos.

I'd guess that they do because it is more a cultural condition than religion.

I'm going to hell anyway, I might as well use the name in vain as many times as possible.
