idk, can you be bad in a good way?

can you be tough and direct and still be kind hearted and help others?

can someone who's good in a bad way go to hell? If they try really hard to be helpful, nice and kind but always fail or always end up causing more harm than good? Or would they still go to heaven? And I mean those who really try, not those who claim they try but really don't.
