Do drug laws have more to do with the harms of the drug or does it have more to do with who uses that drug?
why is there a 100-1 disparity between crack cocaine and powder cocaine? Could it be that the crack cocaine is associated with gangbanging blacks that scares people and powder cocaine is used by rich successful white people? What about the way cigarettes/smokeless tobacco is treated vs premium cigars. Both kill people and cause cancer but premium cigars are associated with rich successful people so it gets a lot more special exemptions under the law. Theres cigar bars that dont allow cigarettes to be smoked. What about alcohol vs marijuana. Alcohol kills people and marijuana doesnt. Could it be that alcohol is accepted by mainstream society, politicians drink alcohol while marijuana is associated with scary hippies and rastas on the fringes of society?
