I don't plan on telling my mother because she and her boyfriend are homophobes. I want to slap both of them every time they crack a 'joke' about the lgbt community.

Yeah a lot of them do. I think age makes most people re-evaluate their priorities. In the end, most parents just want their kids to be happy.

if they are not straight now, they are probably not homophobic.. seriously though, yes it can happen. it might take some time but eventually, hopefully, they will see that their son is still the same person they loved all of these years. that his orientation does not have to change their relationship with him...
