Only because normal people find them scary or not nice. I have a friend who is in his 40s but in his head he is about 15. I usually see him at his birthday party usually held in a pub he is allowed on half of shandy. He invites his friends who tend to be loud and embarrassing but once you get over that its great he likes me to go I am his "special friend" he will tell me things he won't tell others I am one he trusts.

Now mentally challenged people find each other through school or other things they do for them. Or through a relative or friend. This is a strange example but if youve seen the movie Sling Blade the lady worked at a dollar store and a girl who was a little slow they fixed her up with carl because they both were mentally challenged.

Well, I think there is truth that we attract like persons. There is comfort in those who share commonalities. And, perhaps, less judgement as well.
mentally disturbed and mentally handicapped do not mean the same thing.
