Do most Christians believe in Santa Claus?

Given that there is more evidence for Santa's existence than that of God or Jesus, it just seems like it would make more sense to believe in him.

Update -- I didn't know this would be taken as religious bashing. I just don't understand how people come to the beliefs they have.

An interesting twist to the tradition of Santa clause is the existence of evidence linking its origin to ancient Germanic pagan rites. The question then is, is today’s Christianity simply a gimmick? Is it old paganism in modern regalia? These questions gain strength when you see recurring themes from ancient religious dogma being embellished in today’s religious rhetoric’s.
Notwithstanding the above, it is nice to remember what Jesus said, “My people perish for lack of understanding”
All the same, Ancient themes recurring in today’s mainstream religions do not categorically render them as fakes. I believe that they only showcase the true message of the spirit of the day, for as Jesus said, “I did not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfil it”.
Hence I must say that most Christians do not necessarily believe in Santa Claus. Yet they have gradually accepted its symbolism as a metaphor for the gift of a saviour given to mankind by a loving father to redeem them from a fall.

Religious intolerance is so ugly. I wish people would agree to disagree without all the childish mocking.

You're really no different than Christians calling Atheists dumb for not believing in a God.

No, fool.

There isn't evidence that Santa Claus exists. You know why? Because I AM Santa Claus. I work my *** off all year long and give my son a fantastic Christmas and there's never a present under that tree that I didn't spend MY money on.

If you are going to start a debate about the existence of God/Jesus, at LEAST start with an arguable statement!

Psh.

I'm tired of the religion bashing that's always going on--I wish we could all just believe in what we want, without the unnecessary statements. Is it really hurting you that some people are Christian? I'm not a Christian--do you see me instigating or insulting those who are with mocking questions?

I believe in Santa Claus! I am taking my two children to Lapland so we can see him for christmas. We leave on 20th Dec and arrive back on 24th Christmas eve. I think the belief of Santa is very magical. I am so thank ful for the story of Christmas and it makes me proud to believe in Christ & God.

Not all. But lots of non-Christians do. Superstitious people are nowadays more numerous than truly religious people.
Truly religious people consciously and rationally believe in the Word of God, revealed in the Holy Books.

Wow, another person mocking Christians. How original! How clever! ... Okay, not really.

Just as ilovethewrongman, Konrad, arw1988, any many others have said, ENOUGH with the religion bashing. Do you anti-religion zealots not realize you are just as intolerant, narrow-minded, and bigoted as the religious zealots?

I believe that Saint Nicholas did exist. I do not believe in a Santa Claus. I also do not believe that we celebrate Christs birth at the appropriate time (Christmas). If you read the Bible it leads one to believe He was born in the springtime.

Mainly Christian children. As they grow older they find out it's just a fairy-tale to get their imaginations up during the winter season. It's not BAD to believe in Santa Claus, just as it's not BAD to believe in the tooth fairy. I grew up in a Christian household and believed in Santa, the toothfairy, and the easter bunny (also vampires and ghosts, but I was a wierd child). I grew out of it and put a whole stop to the Christian thing when I was old enough to make the decision for myself.

Although giving presents is good, I feel bad about people who lies for the existance of santa.
Also, giving people presents should not be restricted to chrismas or birthdays. I buy my kids presents every few days and tells them it is from me. I know that not everybodey have the budget to do so. but, you can give even a seed as a present and plant it with them. The problem in is in lies!

Small children probaly believe in Santa no matter what religion, heck I know some Jewish kids who believed in Santa. But the comments you made are not only inflammatory but ridiculusly in accurate. There is almost no reputable historian who will deny the exsistance of the man Jesus who was known as the Messiah and Christ. There is historical evidenace of a man who was called Saint Nicholas of which the modern day Santa came from. There is still some dispute whether or not this man actually exsisted or not, so much for more proof. And just for you I found in my studies and things I have learned in my life time more evidence for the exsistance of God than there is for evolution which I am sure you hang on to as if your very soul depended on it. So before you go throughing dispersion in anyones direction you might want to be a little more up on the facts of which you are espousing unless it is just unjustifilble hate, which has no place here.

Santa Claus is ST. Nick who loved children so much that he gave gifts to them in celebrating our Lords birth.

So Santa Claus is in everyone during Christmas time.
We took it one step further, everyone gives a gift because of our inner child.

Gifts can be anything, time, homemade items etc.. It just got too commercialized which spoils the true meaning.
