Your question is do most intelligent and smart people smoke?

We all know many do, but I'm not sure that most do, i.e. 50.1% do.

Studies break it down by race, age, money, college degree etc... but that still doesn't provide us or you with a definitive answer to your question.

My guess is that most do not, meaning at least 50.1% of intelligent people do not smoke. Just a guess though.

Also, the worldwide median percentage of those who smoke is around 24% (of course some countries are much higher). The U.S. is at 22%.

This means that roughly 3 out of 4 people do not smoke.

But one would have to ask, what is the definition of a smart person?

I would counter this argument with the fact that almost every wino dosser and beggar you see smokes.

people call it dumb, but some of the smartest people I ever knew smoked. There must be something to the few minutes of isolation and depth of thought during the smokey retreat.

that's actually very true. that's absolutely correct. i am not a man of many vices, cigarette smoking being right there up front. and that's a pretty good way of putting it. having a cigarette is a couple minute window to just try to relax, decompress, and retreat into one's own thoughts. i'm not advocating for it, just simply explaining where i'm coming from. take care, be well... benjamin

Intelligent people can be found in lots of situations, but the one's doing stuff with their lives probably wont be smokers. Because a lot less people start smoking now and it's not the one's with will power.

I smoke ciggarettes and just that particular notion a few days ago. And I don't mean smart as in pretentious, but something along the lines of rationalization smart. Example would be if I spill hot coffee on myself in the car, freak out and have a smoke and learn not to spill it anymore, rather than trying to sue the company for making hot coffee.

Did you see that hot coffee case? It wasn't normal hot, it was 'melt through every layer of skin' hot.

Was just in need of an example is all. Okay then, I will use another one. A woman is knocked over in a store and she broke her leg, sued the company for their lack of securitypolicies and won the case. The person that knocked her over in the store was her own kid. Or how about this story, Pro lifer shoots and kills a man, in church. If a person is with an organization called the pro lifers, do they really need an orientation explaining the not kill part of the cause?

I used to smoke. I feel a lot smarter and healthier without it. It was not one of the smartest things I've done.

If they smoke because they want to look 'smart' or 'intellectual', then they're pretty fuc*ing dumb.

I used to smoke cigarettes and quit. I smoke pipe tobacco and cigars though.

I will not ever buy cigarettes again, because cigarette companies test their products on beagles...it's pretty messed up and I can't believe anyone in their right mind would be okay with that.

Smokers are usually addicted to nicotine and most of them are trying to quit but with no joy.
