Do our cats and dogs understand it's an accident when you accidently kick them?

Woke up this morning and swung my feet out of bed and kicked my little girl....does she know it was an accident? i feel so bad...she's only 7.5 pounds...it was dark and i couldn't see a thing. she's not hurt or acting weird. do they just forget or do they understand it was an accident?

im sure they understand when its an accident... animals read body language and the tone of your voice... if you intentionally kicked an animal they know b/c you usually yell something at them and youre body language is agressive also

You know, I don't think my cat does. He has tried to 'sneak attack' me more than I can remember!!! And I sometimes think he darts right in front of my feet to kill me ... LOL

Cat's might need persuading. Dogs just don't give a **** as long as the food keeps coming.

I don't know, but I always feel horrible when I step on one of my babies...I think it's how you act afterward. My babies know when they are in trouble just by my tone of voice.

Hope so, the cats have started talking to me as soon as the lights go out so I know where their at. Funny, but they do learn.

The dog gets all happy and thinks I'm playing with her. The cats spend the rest of the day glaring at me from the top of their cat post.
