Do ovarian cysts just go away without doing anything about them?
I went to the doctor and had an ultra sound and internal ultra sound because I've been having very bad abdominal pain and bleeding and found out I have ovarian cysts. Basically, the nurse just told me this and said they will go away and that was it.... So, they aren't life-threatening and will just pop? What if they don't go away?

I had one, or perhaps many, not sure except for the one when I was a teenager. It was the most painful experience. Since that time, I have had the "pleasure - NOT" of I am assuming additional ones. Yes. mine eventually went away; I consider myself lucky. However, I was young and dumb then; not so anymore. If I were you, I would get a second opinion, as they can cause fertility issues.

My mother's and sister's did, but that doesn't mean yours will. Oh, and according to them the popping hurts like hell (apparently it's the female equivalent of a guy getting kicked in the balls).

I have no idea. Get a second opinion, preferably from a doctor from another medical system.Like (1)

If they don't go away, it can be due to fertility damage. Generally getting pregnant can cause changes that clear this kind of thing up, but this kind of thing can be from infertility conditions as well. One theory is they are eggs that didn't drop down the tube and stuck to the ovary though many things can cause cysts like viruses from sex and what not.
