Actually I think we kind of do. It's really our own expectations that don't get met when our heart is broken... If we did not have those set up in the first place I don't think our hearts would break.

I think if you fall for a serial "chaser" then you definitely didn't break your own heart, you've been deceived and the "chaser" deserves all the wrath he/she can carry. But if you're a "stalker" kind of lover = you did it to yourself.

it can happen
if they love but refuse to let it happen
they can hurt themselves and actually convince themselves they were right about things going wrong
