Yes - I also eat mushrooms, and they are grown in manure.

Balboa: sorry, veal calves are not unborn or stillborn - they're normal calves, born alive, and usually raised for weeks indoors on special diets in order to keep the meat tender. It's really no better, in my mind. In most countries it's illegal to put stillborn calves ("slinks") into the human foodchain - you can never guarantee why they died, they may have been diseased. Slinks are generally processed for fertilizer or petfood - but their skins make very fine leather too.

Sorry - take it from someone who still visits the family farm regularly. :) (and I don't eat veal either - it's cruel)

If we did, we would never eat ANYTHING. Plants come from soil that is made up millions of years of dead animals with lots of nasty stuff like manure mixed in, honey is bee vomit, fish swim in their own pee, cows eat corn that is kept in bin that the farmer walk in after cleaning mature. Bread is made up on thousands of dead micro animals, and have you seen the body parts that make up the parts that make milk? Ewwww (Whats worse are the things humans decide to eat, knowing what they ARE. Ever have a balut? And NOT throw-up?)
We can't escape nasty things, no matter how hard we try. When we smell a dead body, or a fart, it's because small micro parts are coming into our bodies, and the tongue helps in the smell, so we actually "taste' it in a way. The air you breathe in has been traveling around for millions of years and you're most likely breathing in Dino farts, as well as a touch of someone elses sneeze.
At least eggs have a shell. Tis nothing compared to the things we eat with out the shells safety...

Heh heh heh!!!

Gives you good motivation to become a Breatharian, and live on air alone!
What about all the poo that is used to fertilise the vegetable garden? And so on.

Dammit! You've got to be practical and eat SOMEthing!

Heh, that's kind of random.

Most people don't put too much thought into it - presumably because, if you know it's come from a "safe" place then it won't kill you to eat it. Just like cheese. If you knew the process of making cheese, you'd probably feel a little differently towards that, too!

I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian, so I don't eat eggs at all. I try not to consume any dairy products, as I find it weird and a little bit disgusting (no offence intended) to eat something that was produced by an animal, and the whole process of extracting it... *shiver*, not nice thoughts!

The eggs I eat (gratefully) come from the cloaca of a chicken. Hens **** from there and they also lay eggs from there. That's why there is a bit of yuck stuck to the shell, sometimes... Not a problem for me. During the Japanese Occupation of WWII, people were starving and eggs were precious. They still are. :P

Hah!. Eggs are in shells and last I heard, people don't eat the shells just the contents. And they are good for a source of protien and lowers bad cholesterol and raises good cholesterol. I eat 3 eggs every morning. You're missing out.

there are far more gross food facts than that.

the fda allows a certain amount of insect and rodent bits in every processed food! you can go to the web site if you don't believe me.

I sure do especially since I have my own chicken in my backyard and will wait for them to stop laying and run out to grab them.

And someone on here said something about it being "The chickens good time" but you don't need a rooster for the Hen to lay eggs and frankly I don't think the hens enjoy laying nor enjoys when the roosters... well... do their thing. Not pleasant.

I do agree with the poster unintended idea though that people should be more aware of where their food comes from. :D

Here where I live they a filipino specialty called "balot", its duck eggs with the baby duck almost fully developed. The egg is fermented for some time like cheese and then they sell that and people peel of the shell and eat it with feathers, bones and all with chili sauce. So now that you've heard that I'm hoping that a couple a yummy scrambled breakfast eggs will seem a lot more appealing. Also consider that what you are saying "yuk" for, is a luxury food for other people. Try not to be so picky. I love eating eggs and I know exactly where they come from. Where I'm from we just grab a chicken from the backyard slit it's throat and cook it for dinner, without even cutting off the head. There's nothing yucky about it.
