    Sound sleep is certainly necessary for good health.

    not really. waking up after that sound sleep is a good sign though

    Best not to sleep too soundly, as people might take that as a sign of death!

    No, because sometimes people sleep too much as a symptom of depression. It can be a coping mechanism. But I think the other way around would be true - a person can only be reasonably healthy if they get sound sleep most of the time.
