Resolved Question

Do you agree with Obama reversing the stem-cell policy?

It's official...President Obama followed through on one of his campaign promises, and reversed Bush's stem cell policy today.....His thinking is that medical miracles don't happen by accident....Do you agree with this policy for stem cell research? Why or why not?

Embryonic stem cell research is far and away the most promising avenue of research for dozens of different diseases/conditions. It's obvious to anyone that understands what is involved that it is the way to go.

Bush never outlawed stem cell research, he simply refused to fund it federally, which in effect killed any advances because scientists have spent most of their time the last 8 years looking for funding instead of doing research. Obama is simply providing federal funding.

Unfortunately too much of the public doesn't really understand what stem cell research is. In their minds it is a moral issue that most equate with abortion, as if it ends life. This is so far from the truth as to almost not deserve a response.

If you're curious about the "moral" dilemma of stem cell research, please view the Sam Harris vid I posted on my blog. After watching it you will understand that it is decidedly immoral to oppose stem cell research.

Yes, instead of wasting them, they should be used to find cures.

The embryo's that are used to harvest stem cells, cannot by any definition be called sentient beings. They're just microscopic lumps of undifferentiated cells. There was a time that even a ***** was seen as a little human being curled up in a cell. And sure enough religious dogma was all over it, trying to forbid any `waste` of the stuff.

The millions of people suffering from horrible diseases that stem cell research will help cure some day, most definitely are sentient beings. They are our neighbours, our relatives, our children, they are *us*. Human suffering has been prolonged for eight years by Bush´s policy. Appearantly he wasn´t aiming for the title of `Benefactor of Mankind´...

Let´s be grateful that Obama finally gave us back some opportunities to build a better world.

Yes! Stem cells are wasted every year; let's put them to a use that can cure life-threatening diseases.

Stem-cell research is necessary.

The government funds it. We pay for it. But if we fall sick and because of the government research there is a cure. We have to pay for it again. I do not agree with the government funding it. If private companies want to do it. Then let them. The shape of our country is very bad. This is something the government is going to put money up for, that could be spent giving some people a job. Or feeding the hungry. Now is not the time to be doing this.

What Vendetta Said! Whuttup V!!!! LOL
Stem Cell research promises so much in terms of possibly finding cures for cancer, Cystic Fibrosis, diabetes, epilepsy, the list goes on and on.
To the people who oppose it, they should sign a petition that says they are opposed and when treatments derived from this research can help you or a loved one, you'll be sure to refuse it on ethical grounds..
