Do you as a wiccan believe that magical names are important to magical workings,goddess/god communicating and such?

Or are they part of a flashy allure to being anonymous?

It's a choice that you have to make on your own, if you feel that magical name would lend some mysticism to your practices, then go for it. If you would rather not claim one for yourself, then you don't have to. If you decide not to and eventually you're communicating with the God or Goddess and they give you a name, it would be one that you could adopt only in their company that you wouldn't want to tell anyone else about.

I picked a "magic" name to represent myself in the community, but do not go by it in my workings. My intuition told me that my workings would go better if I were just straight forward and open with my patron God and Goddess. Again, my situation does not reflect the same situation for every Wiccan or Pagan, it was entirely a personal choice and you should make yours based on what you feel is best for your practices.

I do not happen to use a magickal name but I know some who do. I would suggest you research and find the right name that has meaning for you and is unique...you will, therefore, keep it for a lifetime and not be one who changes their name often (not a good idea). I was given a name by my Goddess and only use it when aspecting her presence, not during my ritual or spell casting.

I will add that I am not Neo-Wiccan and their views may differ greatly from mine. We each walk our own path and we do not differ in our basic beliefs but often I find we differ in ways along our spiritual path.

I was given my name by my goddess, I did not choose my own, and only use it when aspecting Her into the circle. I agree with Giggles, I know those who choose their own name and change it as often as they change clothes, but that is not a good idea in my opinion. I preferred to take the name my goddess gave me but it is certainly all right to choose your own, just choose wisely and stick with it. You might have a public name you use, but also a name you use in private and used only between you and your god/dess. I do not, nor do I think it important, to use a magickal name in my workings or communication. I use the name given me only to honor Her.

It is a matter of choice and the tradition that you use. Some traditions are very rigid about the use of magical names, some traditions are flexible and consider the names voluntary and some traditions don't require magical names at all.

No, I use to use them but I really don't any more though I know many who do. It's a personal choice
