It is really a lot of factors. I know a few ectomorphs like my brother that literally never do any exercise and barely move from the couch or bed and eat like horses with high fat, high calorie high sugar foods that contain no vitamins whatsoever and have done for years. They never gain weight.

Others face a constant struggle because of their body type. I don't believe the urban legend about "high metabolism" because people who weigh more always have a higher BMR than those who way less so their metabolism is higher and they require more calories to function and maintain their weight.

I know obese people that work a 12 hour day 6 days a week and don't really eat a whole lot at all. It isn't just black and white.

actually, the stereotype that all fat people are lazy and that it is their fault that they are over weight is incredibly ignorant. Some people have medical issues like PCOS, thyroid problems, insulin resistance, heart problems, certain diseases that make them gain weight or not be able to lose it either.

how can you say that? That is so ignorant!! I know of several overweight people who work their butts off to lose, and may lose a few lbs, but still because of health conditions or low metabolism. Not everyone has it easy.

Explain hardgainers then. You know the guys. 6"+ 130lbs of skin and bone. They can eat 3000-5000 calories a day and gaining mass is impossible for them. They have to struggle hard to bulk up. Why are so many people overweight? You can't tell me 60-70% of the population is fat and lazy and that is the only reason they're overweight or obese.

Lazy as in not physically doing redundant movements for a set time or lazy as in neglecting family and friends?
