Nothins is set in stone. I believe in a set options that are predetermined for you at your birth but what you do with them depends on you. You have free will only inasmuch as your life comes with a few alternatie scenarios you can chose on your own. Depending on your choices your ending will differ. Like in interactive fiction to some extent. You decide but all the choices you can make have their own, individual endings.

Yes I do. I also believe free will is an illusion. Who we are and what we do is a product of our nature and our environment.

Destiny is paradoxical in nature. You have innate talents and abilities and inclinations, and possess the free will with which to exercise them. From the standpoint of the future, everything that occurs is destiny, while in the present, free will and ability to make choices means that everything experienced could be different, but did not as a result of what was chosen. It could be my destiny to sit here at my computer until the phone rings, at which time I'll get up and answer it, using free will, and my answering the phone would be destiny. I think the best examples I've encountered are from Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. In LOTR, Aragorn has it in him to be king of Gondor, but must choose that path. He was born to unite Middle Earth as king, but had to choose to be king. But I think a more appropriate example is present in Star Wars. The first movie released was Episode 4, in which Darth Vader is the antagonist. Once Anakin Skywalker, he became Darth Vader through choices he made. His journey into darkness became inevitable. Every decision brought him closer to what he would become. But from the point of view of Episodes 1-3, he was a child, then a teen, then an adult, and his identity hadn't yet changed. It's cause and effect. What you choose becomes your destiny, by tiny increments. It was his destiny to become Darth Vader, but he chose his destiny......Yeah, I think that makes sense.:)

for you to believe in destined, you must first affirm a predestinator.if the affirmed predestinator is malevolent ,you should of course expects to arrive at a disastrous end.if however like jabesh you affirm a predestinator who says the thoughts he has of you are thoughts of peace, not of evil and th thoughts of bringing you to an expected end, then you may voluntarily elects your own destination and expects the pre destinator you affirm brings you to an expected end.

destiny therefore means you have a choice to make, jabesh decided to be free of sorrow, joseph shared his dreams, david was curious about what goes on in the battle friend,he took a decision to confront the goliath when he is not even qualified to be enlisted in the army,he has confidence in his weapon, the sling and the stone .moses too had the instinct of a deliverer he actually slew an egyptian in defence of an israelite.the point being made is you cant have a destiny reached without actions and imput on your part.some are destined to be sorrowful but like jabesh changed the course of destiny and become joyful.some are destined to be great like the athlete who choses to use drugs to win medals and was eventually ******** of medals.
the bible clearly acknowledges the fact that our tongues has the capability to change the course of nature, the course of our life and our destiny as the tongue of jabesh change his destiny from sorrow to joy.we all can change our destiny by the words we speak.our words are indeed spirit and life because we are made in the image of GOD so you can use all the wrong evil words to consistently describe your life and not come to an evil destination.so destiny in effect are our making.men heaps all the errors of their existence and label it their destiny not realising it is the errors in bit made daily over decades that has now aggreagates to their undesirable circumstance.
if you have an history of right choices like jabest you will end up successful in life.so watch your words ,your choices as they will eventually form your destiny.

Yes I do. I also think you are the master of your own destiny. Choices you make contribute to your destiny.

Yes, I do, but I don't believe it's something that remains the same all your life. There is a possibility of influencing it, by your actions and choices, but also by your way of thinking.

There's no such thing as destiny as in a predetermined event or occurrence. However, probability exists in everything and certain things will have a higher probability to occur than others, based on a given number of variables and this can sometimes be mistaken for destiny. Especially when it comes to love, or some positive event.

But if you want to call it destiny, go ahead.

NO!! do everything for yourself and live the way you want to. there is no destiny you need to fulfill! You can create your own destiny, but it is definitely not ordained by a higher power

Perhaps it is possible for both free-will and destiny to coexist. Maybe we are destined to be presented with certain decisions that we must make. But the choices determine our path to the next series of questions. Kind of like a complex decision tree. One starting point, leading to a vast nework of decisions and possible outcomes.

In this scenario, the questions are predetermined, the answers are up to you. This view matches very well with my personal observations. It seems that life does not always provide us with easy answers, but it seems that it always finds a way of presenting us with the right questions.

I believe that our lives are pre-programmed and pre-destined until we become aware and convinced of that fact; then there is no choice of what we have to do to continue - be self-honest and follow the lead on that from one moment to the next. There is no choice possible but to do what is consonant with the truth of our being. Choice is therefore really an illusion; when we are not conscious of our pre-programming whatever "choice" we make was preprogrammed anyway, and when we become aware self-honestly of the truth of our being there is only one thing to do - follow it and BE it!
