I do believe in the death penalty. Except I believe in a HUMANE method of execution. The purpose of capital punishment should be to remove the danger from our society. Nothing more.

To use it as punishment, in my opinion, simply gives us an excuse to commit murder vicariously, and that lowers us to the level of beasts.

I don't believe in the death penalty.

For terrible crimes, people should be placed in prison for life and deprived of all things joyous.

No, I do not. For me, it isn't based on any morals or ideology, but on the fact that there is always a possibility you could be putting the wrong person to death. If we had an infallible judicial system, I would support putting all felons to death. The purpose of government is to keeps its subjects safe. That is true whether you consult legal philosophers, the Bible, or whoever. If that is the case, then it is appropriate to remove felonious individuals from society completely. It is proven that people who commit one crime are likely to commit the same crime again in the future. As horrible as it might sound, removing these people from the gene pool could only do good for the future of society. It would save resources and keep the risk of crime to society lower. Taxes would be lower because police and the judicial system would not be as busy and there would be less use of prisons. Less people's lives would be at risk, and we would not need to worry nearly as much about crime.

That being said, there is no such thing as an infallible judicial system, never was and never will be. Therefore, I believe that the death penalty is always wrong. Innocent people have been and will be convicted and they should not have to pay for other people's crimes.

I believe Pedophiles should be put to death, also serial killers and rapists. people who have proven that they have no remorse or have proven they cannot be rehabilitated. The only thing that they should implement is a slow torture to death penalty, especially for pedophiles and child murderers. I'd like to do the torturing and I'd do it for free!

I only believe in the death penalty after three appeals in 12 months for someone who knowingly, willingly, and with planning (i.e. not a 'crime of passion') takes another person's life and there is 'hard evidence' they committed the crime not just an 'eye witness' or circumstantial evidence. I understand the moral and philosophical arguments of those who do not believe in the death penalty for whatever reason (i.e religious, 'we lower ourselves to their level', etc.), but I also believe in practical solutions to real world problems. The fact of the matter is you have already taken their life away by locking them up 23 hours per day... why should the rest of the citizenry (especially the victim's family!) be punished via taxes for the person's heinous crime? Not to mention there has got to be at least SOME measure of deterrence in the knowledge that if you do murder someone in cold blood and get caught you WILL die.

I believe in the death penalty and I think they should do mass executions to save money. I think with the gas they should put them to sleep to make it more humane. I believe in the death penalty because there are unimaginable crimes out there. Like Westley Dodd. He molested his two year old cousins in the closet and then molested a 4 year old repeatedly and then hung him. He was the cutest little 4 year old as well.

Armed robbery - 1st offense
Murder - 1st offense
Attempted murder - 1st offense
Maiming - 1st offense

I philosophically believe that there are crimes that merit the ultimate penalty. However, the existent systems that enforce the law are too flawed for me to believe in applying the death penalty. I feel that the execution of a single innocent immediately negates the purpose of punishing the truly guilty and evil. If our judicial system where perfect I would have fewer moral qualms unfortunately there will always be doubt about the process.

People who agree with the death penalty are guilty of pre-meditated murder (by definition), making them no better then the criminals that they so wish to emulate and elminate. Professional jealousy maybe?

It has it's place. I'll leave the provisions up to the lawmakers.

Yes I do.
But I don't believe in prisons and jail time.
It only endorses and grooms for more crimes
not reforming themselves or actually helping them to understand the severity of their actions.

exactly what wordsmith said .. i do believe that some people deserve the death penalty , but i dont have enough faith in the system to always make the right call and so ill have to object on the death penalty for that mistakes will happen sometimes

I agree with the death penalty, but not for all heinous crimes. On the one hand financially it is cheaper to put a bullet in their head, or save the bullet and hang them than it is for the injections. And FAR cheaper than keeping them clean, healthy, fed, and clothed.

On the other hand, the ones who commit crimes that do go for death should suffer incredibly before they die. They get off so easy dying. Their victims werent so lucky.

I completely agree with the death penalty. Think of how over crowded our jails would be without it. People who murder other people should be put to death.
