I barely go on facebook any more but when I did it was for the basics of keeping in touch with friends that I cant see often etc. I had my privacy settings incredibly high and didnt constantly update my status to let everyone know all the tiny details and stresses of my life.<br />

I did find it useful at times to feed information selectively to people knowing they were complete gossips to try to deal with lies and gossip quickly before they got too out of hand. It can be a good tool if you use it wisely especially when you live in a small town full of nasty backstabbers.

I do it for networking purposes. I need people to know who I am in order to make money.
