As long as colonialism (slavery) has been around basically so has capitalism. You can argue that colonialism is dead but is it...really? Its all about walking on the backs of the working class in order to achieve profit. True freedom is hindered or ******** from those stuck in middle class, just as true freedom in unreachable for profit achievers who are ****** to their money.

This is one of the best questions in a long time. The easy answer, of course, is yes. The more complicated answer is that unrestrained capitalism is true slavery - it is the very antithesis of true freedom.

How do you control capitalism and have the same freedoms in the constitution? The constitution would need some reworking! Amendments would need to be repealed and then the countless, countless days , weeks and years of trying to find and get all the loop holes out! that's what ended up happening to the original constitution! Over the years there were loop holes to get around many of the amendments and laws! High paid crooked attorney's for "Blue Blood" Old Money from the beginning and into the industrial revolution actually changed the constitution with amendments and laws that worked to their behalf and leaving the lower and middle class in the dark with the usual legal jargon and rhetoric! Before too long, The financial institutions became in control as they are today and when they make a mistake then the economy reacts as it has the past few years! We are stuck and may never get free of their control! Chinese banks are buying up all the foreclosed businesses and unclaimed homes and land! The USA will be a way different place in 20 years!

Yes, because it has made us all slaves to global corporations and financial institutions.

And they have introduced a new World Religion - worship of the Almighty Dollar.

I think that truly unrestrained capitalism can sometimes be a hindrance to true freedom under some political systems, but I believe that an anarcho-capitalist system is the most free system possible. Capitalism IS economic freedom, Socialism/Communism is not, to argue otherwise would be to argue that Fascism is not a hindrance to freedom...but its a different kind of freedom, economic freedom, social freedom, political freedom, religious freedom...Could you say true capitalism can hinder any of these freedoms?

The truth is I think sometimes, a small but effective government needs to step in to assure that the economic freedom of businesses does not intrude upon the personal, individual freedoms or safety of its workers, but that it also does not excessively curb the economic freedoms of businesses and citizens, and then we will have the most free system possible, short of anarcho-capitalism, but I think we can do a little better than that in terms of government investing in the good of the people: Providing for the common defense, promoting the general welfare and securing the blessings of liberty. This is what the founding fathers intended, but we have strayed, if we follow this creed I believe we will be a better nation.

In a general sense, do I believe that a free market system is more "free" than a communist one (independent of political system)? Yes, but we still must make sure that personal freedoms are in tact, a free market capitalist economy does not inherently guarantee nor deny these right, necessarily.

Free market capitalist economies have as a goal "profit" - put very simply! So services or goods that are not profitable are not given priority. This inevitably disadvantages many people. Such disadvantage needs to be redressed by intelligent government.

yes. add an ism to a concept and then apply it to life and right away it begins to hinder true freedom. capitalism promotes theft so it is one of the more wild-running ones and inflicts many constraints upon many.

It depends on whether the true freedom of which you speak is individual or collective. For businesses, unrestrained capitalism equates with true freedom - they can do anything they want without restriction. For individuals, the answer is less clear and in many instances negative. Unfettered capitalism allows employers to establish work rules to their benefit. So, for unskilled workers, their freedom is diminished. For skilled and in-demand workers, however, their freedom is enhanced.

Unrestrained capitalism, unrestrained individualism, unrestrained consumerism, unrestrained nationalism, unrestrained materialism, unrestrained racism...are all fatal like unrestrained freedom.
That is why we all must learn to observe moderation in all things.

puki says it better than i can.
No ideology is correct in itself - life is too complex. To try and live out an "ism" unrestrained is a recipe for disaster.
There are some who follow capitalism religously. They share much in common with Marxists - whenever you try to point out flaws in their ideology, they claim that the problem is that it hasn't gone far enough! Madness.
