There are only short, precious moments of happiness.

Duh. You stole that off me as I have written it here many times. There is no permanent happiness unless you have a major mental problem so obviously it only comes in short bursts. Like a laugh, that's happiness, but brief.

Probably, but I very much hope that there is such a thing as a general, ongoing feeling of peace and contentment. I'm still searching for these little b*ggers though!

There is no permanent happiness, but thankfully, it is possible to be happy more of the time than not.

I believe so, just as there are only moments of sadness as opposed to permanent sadness. Happiness is reactive, one cannot just feel happy if the environment around him sucks. Peace however - and satisfaction of the brain, is internal, and hence can be permanent.

I've experienced true happiness for much, much longer than a matter of moments. I've had weeks of it at a time, except for little glitches. Can it be achieved permanently? I think so. Knowing how isn't the key for me. I think I've cracked that one. It's the doing it. That'll take some practise :) [For what my opinion's worth!]

there is permanent happiness which has nothing to do with belief.

if there were permanent happiness, we would take it for granted and still be yearning for more happy joyjoy feelings

permanent happiness would be a mental disorder - we have to have an emotional tide, feelings should come and go, should change - otherwise, we become stagnant
