Do You Bother to Rake Your Leaves?

Or do you just run over them with a lawn mower and chop them up?

I have a 1000 sq ft allotment garden and I rake and collected about a hundred bags of leaves each year. Combine that with kitchen scraps and the summer grass clippings and my soil is getting awesome.

leaves are an excellent mulch/fertilizer. Rake them around the trees, into your garden or flower beds. Mulching makes them decompose faster so either way is fine.
bagging or burning is such a waste of natural soil nutrients.
I have to go into town or rake off the mountain road to get mine, because all of my trees are conifers.

I don't think there is any point in raking the leaves, because the wind is only going to flow them back, just a waste of time and effort.

My yard guy does his magic every few weeks and there are never any leaves to rake, though I have a big lot and many ancient live oaks on it.

Most everyone around here uses leaf blowers, especially the yard men.

I rake them, put them through my shredder and then scatter them over my garden. It’s the best fertilizer out there and it’s free. Sadly, many of my oak trees have blown over in recent storms (one onto my house) so leaves are few and far between anymore.
