I fear the death of my loved ones more. I imagine it would be easier being the one gone than being the one left behind.

No, not at all.
In fact, a number of years ago, I accidentally bumped my "funny bone" -- elbow -- and proceeded to faint from the pain. The reason for mentioning this was ... for a few seconds, I saw what looked like large white circles about 3 feet in front of me -- the very next thing I remember is that I woke up with my head being cradled by a woman's hands!!!
I learned, first hand, that when the body experiences extreme pain, the brain proceeds to "shut down" our consciousness of the pain -- the medical term is called vaso-vagal syncopy. HAD I died during that short episode, I would never had been aware of my own death.
At least in my own case, I now have zero worries about the last seconds I actually spend on earth as a living being.
