Resolved Question

Do you find it just as expensive to eat a meal in as to dine out where you live?

We had spagetti with all the trimings last night and the total cost was about the same as dining at our favorite Italian restaurant. Not considering the energy used to cook it.

No, as soon as you have a good variety in your pantry and all the spices and herbs you can cook delicious meals a lot cheaper. It can be expensive to stock your pantry with all the necessities though. Search "inexpensive recipes" on the internet and have fun with your spouse cooking them up.

dining out = getting fat, dining in = still you can get fat... spending out spending in the same, paying and buying + cooking = the same *sigh*

It depends on what you cook. There are so many economical meals one can cook and feed a crowd on the cheap. Another plus to preparing your own food is that you know exactly what you are eating. Restaurant meals are usually incredibly high in fat and lacking in fiber. Eating out constantly is one of the major reasons Americans have such a problem with obesity.

No. I cook much better, more nutritious meals at home from locally grown, organic farms. Meals out are expensive, fattening, and often don't support local farms and businesses.

If you're eating filet mignon at home and burgers when you're out, then guess which costs more!

Seriously, though, I think it is cheaper to eat at home (and the food is more nutritious) unless you are entertaining company. Then, considering all the expense and time and labour involved, it's probably cheaper to take them out.

When you cook your own meal you are CREATING something of you.

You also cook in a cleaner environment than a restaurant and know exactly whats in it.

Heck no. It's a lot cheaper to eat at home.
Dinner for me can be a peanut butter sandwich, yogurt, and some canned fruit. Total cost is less than $3.00

Breakfast is usually two packs of instant oatmeal and a pop. Total cost is less than $2.00. When I eat the same thing out it's about $5.00 with a tip.

Lunch I almost always eat out. 99% of the time it's the only meal my bride and I eat together. Luckily we work close enough to each other that we can do so.

me and my fiance eat out alot and I say for us it is cheaper than buying alot of groceries. Considering most of our eat out meals are under $20 and our last grocerie bill was $80 and that was only 3bags worth; enough food for a weekend! Eating out can still be healthy you just ahve to watch what and where you eat!
