Resolved Question

Do you find it rude that people tell others their religion is wrong?

I don't think there is an excuse for how rude it is to tell someone their religion is wrong. I'm not talking about expressing disbelief. I'm talking about that flat out "you are one of the masses being tricked into blah blah blah".

Like, how fucking rude is it to run up to someone and tell them they're a sheep? Would you run up to a Hindu or a Muslim and tell them how blind they are? Probably not.

Maybe I'm just being over-sensitive or expecting too much from others. But lately people are really preachy about tolerance without being tolerant at all.

Absolutely. It is no better than a "religious" person being overly preachy and trying to convert you; as a matter of fact, it is no different. Sadly enough, I've seen (and heard) more than my share of both.

I think that if it's.. 'I BELIEVE your religion is wrong or inappropriate' - fair enough that's THEIR opinion.
But if it gets to the point of 'IT'S WRONG, STOP believing, change, change, change' - then yes, i think that is rude.

I don't think there's anything wrong with disagreeing with another person's religion. However, I do think it's rude to say that it's wrong, and I think it's wrong to try to convince other people to believe a different religion. Everyone's different, and religion is often a part of someone's identity (and by identity I mean things that make that person unique, not as means of trying to identify somebody). So telling somebody that their religion is wrong is like telling somebody to change their identity.

Of course it is rude, i think it even goes past the levals of rude onto the realm of the uncouth. Religion/spirituality- any of that is subjective. They cant tell you that its "wrong" because they cant possibly have experianced what the person they are judging has experianced. People brush up against the divine in everyday life... and those experiances cannot be measured, quantified, and can only be explained incompletly.

NOT ONLY IS IT RUDE, BUT IT IS JUDGING AND I AM AFRAID THAT ONE DAY THEY WILL HAVE TO ANSWER FOR THAT IN FRONT OF THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY!..I WOULDN'T TELL AN ATHEIST THEY WERE WRONG, BUT I WOULD TELL THEM ABOUT JESUS AND WHAT HE HAS TO OFFER THE SINNER...LIFE EVERLASTING!!

We all have to find our path to enlightenment, and I would venture we all stuggle to do so at one point or other in our lives. I think the world is a better place when we support each other's journey rather than dismiss it as "not right for me."

So "rude"? Don't know. I'm guessing the underlying emotion is more "threatened."

Absolutely. Along with that goes the belief that "almighty-yetloving" god will make burn in hell 90% of mankind for having been born into another religion.

No matter how good or compassionate people were. He will show no compassion for them if they were taoist and he will make them pay for eternity mwahahahaha
The whole concept seems f*cking ridiculous to me.

yes theres never any excuse for doing that. i say let people decide for themselves whether they think the religion they were born into was right or not. seriously i get it sometimes because i am a muslim at a catholic school, with no other muslims besides me. i mean i dont say or even believe that christianity or catholicsm is wrong. i dont tell atheists to start believing in God, religion is a life choice, not an assignment.

I myself think it is one of the worst things anyone could ever do to a person,I think there should be a law against it.I don't care how anyone believes. Each and every person has their own personal way they do things and because it is the choice we choose,I will never understand why or who would do such a hurtful thing.

I thought to approach this question with an unequivocal yes. Yes I think telling someone their religion is wrong is very rude, but I would find myself telling Mormon ********* polygamists, and fundamentalist Islamists that they are wrong for treating women and children as chattel. So maybe, sometimes rude is right?

I have my beliefs and I don't push them on to others unless asked.

Do I tell others that they are going to hell for what they do or don't believe, of course not.

All religions have some truth to them which is better than none at all. But to tell them they are a fool for believing in what they believe that is making you the bigger fool.

Acepting your religion is one thing. But going out into the world telling everyone what they believe in is false is very hypocritical. As an atheist who used to be christian, I get that a lot. They speak to me like I'm not worthy and do not mind showing the fact that they are bothered by my choice to not choose a religion. This happens a lot in my family considering they are all christian and I'm the first in two generations to walk away. I am often looked down upon and they act differently around me when the subject of religion comes up. I find it very offensive personally unless I know your just messing around

Yes, I tend to keep to myself, questioning only those that approach me.

yea its rude... idont see why other peoples religion really matters that much. i mean theres a possibility that there is no such thing as God or any oter kind of religion at all and that we're wasting our time thinking so.... so why bother trying to change people and annoying the hell out of them?

i'm told i'm wrong on a daily basis because i'm an atheist. everywhere i go, there are people talking about god and how great he is. so, yes, i am going to be expressive. there is no god. you're not going to hell and i don't care.

realistically i don't run around yelling at people that they are sheep. but i do think their practices are silly. and they think i'm going to hell. this is the way it is.

Absalutely. In Danimark a journalist drawn a prophet he does not belive in as a terrorism which made the belivers of this profit very angry. Danimark and other European countries considered this as a freedom of speech! While they don't allow the freedom of speech to say or draw anything bad about them. so It is wrong if you did not take a deep study in their religion. Jeorg Bush humilated many muslims in and outside America only because they are muslim. A muslim from an arabic country is in jail until today for no reason accept he aarived to the U.S. at the 9/11. I am wandering if a person from one religion did something wrong it is rude to say that this religion is wrong. If a Chrestian person killed, it is very rude and very wrong from non christians to say that christians are killers because I know that christians should not kill.
On the other hand it is right if you studied the other religion and found clear wrong things that you want to tell so they don't be confused in their. for example I cant understand how 1=3! What I understand is 1=1 and 3=3.
I know that christians should not lie and know that santa is a big lie. I am wondering is it rude if I said it in this way or shal I say that Santa does not exist.
