wiki says

Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce anxiety, by repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing anxiety, or by combinations of such thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions). The symptoms of this anxiety disorder range from repetitive hand-washing and extensive hoarding to preoccupation with sexual, religious, or aggressive impulses. These symptoms can be alienating and time-consuming, and often cause severe emotional and economic loss. Although the acts of those who have OCD may appear paranoid and come across to others as psychotic, OCD sufferers often recognize their thoughts and subsequent actions as irrational, and they may become further distressed by this realization.

OCD is the fourth most common mental disorder and is diagnosed nearly as often as asthma and diabetes mellitus.[1] In the United States, one in 50 adults has OCD.[2] The phrase "obsessive–compulsive" has become part of the English lexicon, and is often used in an informal or caricatured manner to describe someone who is meticulous, perfectionistic, absorbed in a cause, or otherwise fixated on something or someone.[3] Although these signs may be present in OCD, a person who exhibits them does not necessarily have OCD, and may instead have obsessive–compulsive personality disorder (OCPD), an autism spectrum disorder or some other condition. The faces of OCD can range from difficulty with uneven numbers to nervous habits such as opening a door and closing it four times before one leaves it either open or shut.

ocd is obsessive compulsive disorder. it is when someone becomes fixated on something (obsession) and in order to satisfy the object of their fixation they have a ritual to appease it (compulsion). a common one is a fear of germs (obsession) so in order to feel better they have a fixed number of times to wash their hands. say 10 times. they must wash ten times, not nine, not eleven, but ten.

i don't have it but i have a cousin who does and it is a very emotionally painful disorder to live with.

I've been accused of it. I don't know how it is determined if you are OCD. I am aware of germs and have my inventive ways of not touching things in public areas. I am very neat and orderly. I don't think it reaches the level of OCD. I believe it would have to interfere in your life in some way to be considered OCD. I just think I have strong feelings about germs and cleanliness.

yes. when ever i go someplace i am not comfortable i like it to be exactly the way it was before (tissues on the left of a desk, same order of books on shelfs, magazines in doctor's ofice where they were the first time.) i have panick and anxiety attacks if they are not the way they were before. and i can assure you there are many other things, but i do not want to bore you with them all.

I have OCD, and it controls my -life-.

I'm like Monk (sort of) but I'm less obvious about it.

That's an extremely watered down way to explain, but it's SO not fun to be illogically trapped inside your own body. I've been struggling for 11 years and even though I am CONSTANTLY exposing myself to my fears, it never, never, never, NEVER goes away for too long.
