Do you honestly believe that Obama's healthcare plan is a good idea?

Canada has a similar plan and I've heard from several Canadian citizens that it's horrible, plus Canada has a 15% higher death from cancer rate than the US since people have to wait weeks and months to get treatment.
I grew up in Mexico and I know all about "free" health care, believe me you don't want to get sick in MX.
I get the feeling people just hear the word free and are all excited but they're not really thinking about how they would be affected.

No, I don't think it's a good idea. All the financial logistics aside, questions of how care is to be rationed, my problem with government financed healthcare is that I don't trust the government. Giving the government power over healthcare is giving them far more power than I am comfortable with. How can we truly be freemen if we are forced to rely on the government for our very exsitence?

It's because most of American's are ignorant and listen to anything media feeds them. They don't take the time to read and research the **** for themselves. I really wish people would wake up. No, anyone who isn't stupid would realize free healthcare is the dumbest idea ever concocted.

People seem to forget that they're not being forced to accept government healthcare. If you can afford to pay for private insurance, more power to you. I'm sure the insurance companies are more than happy to pay for all your medical needs and would NEVER try to screw you over. It's the people who CAN'T afford it that need this. Think about it. You probably know someone that you care about, wouldn't want to see seriously ill, but can't afford medical care. Are you going to look them in the eye and say "Gee, I'm sorry you've got a terminal illness, but I don't want my tax dollars to help you. Please die quickly cause you're stealing my oxygen."?

If people want to scream SOCIALISM and keep the healthcare system privatized, then let's take this idea and run with it. Why not privatize law enforcement and the military? We pay taxes to the government so that every citizen can be protected equally. But why should we? I'm sure we could create a whole new free market if police protection became an industry or a commodity. Sure crime would go through the roof, but that's a poor person's problem.

What about education? Hell yeah! Our kids don't work to pay for the cost of education. If you can't afford school or books, then you SHOULD remain an ignorant dumbass. You're not getting a free ride on MY dime!

What IS it about people that makes them so afraid of change? Do you WANT everything to remain the same? The only constant in the universe is CHANGE. A stagnant society is doomed to fail. If the last administration were to have used the money spent on the war on terror and applied it toward economic and social programs, we would have made a step in the right direction toward fixing this country.

I don't have a magic 8-ball to tell me if Obama's plan will work or not. But I'm willing to give it a chance. If it fails, THEN you can cackle, gloat, and say "I told you so", but not before.

I also support the Australian system. But that isn't the real issue. There are two problems that the US system completely ignores. Do you know it costs an American hospital ten times as much for an MRI machine as it does a Japanese hospital? Your health care businesses and pharma companies have been gouging you for decades in the name of "free" enterprise. But all the legal protection is on their side, not the consumers. And as a result you have a mercy flight health care system staffed by volunteers that was conceived as a care service for tribes in the Amazon spending most of it's time flying in ad out of places in Virginia, Kentucky and other continental states.
The other problem is that failing to treat problems when they are in their early stages is now starting to cost you billions in chronic conditions down the track. Thats lost productivity, disability and early death. The cost of those payments to the government will cripple your economy if not dealt with NOW!

I don't know if it is or not, but I've watched too many of my family members try to decide whether or not they should pay $80 for one pill or buy groceries. Somethings gotta give and talking about doing something is a far cry from actually trying something. If we don't do something, we'll never know what NOT to do.

I honestly don't know. All I can think about is, is universal health care the answer if it means the quality of healthcare is worse than it already is?

Here in Australia,we have had health care for years. The way the system works is all workers pay a small % of their wag each year,as in a levee. The main thing it's there for is to help the elderly and disadvantaged, who may be going through hard times. Those who don't wish to be on it can still stay in a private health fund. But as some of you say,it can be rorted if not run properly.
I hope that helps you to understand it a bit better.

NO, I don't know the details. I don't think anybody knows all the details. We certainly need to change our existing systme. I'm afraid this will break it...and our bank

WE the little people need some help. I don't think this is the answer. Putting the government in control of anything is not wise. Might be different if we had some wisdom in Gov. There is no integrity left in the controling members nor in big business and wall street. How many of you got any benefit from the big bail out...other than maybe a small check, which I didn't get. Did you get any help for swinddling banks that do anything they want with you mortgage or credit cards....after getting bail out money.

No it's not good health care and I have tri care via the military and IT STINKS. I know someone said something nice about it, but I have had VERY BAD DOCTORS that can't be gotten rid of in the DOD system. The VA hospitals are a HUGE mess, feel free to google it, and if you really want to see government health care in action go to your local Army Navy Air Force ER on any night of the week and observe the nastyness that is federal health care....
