Yes, because I like smoking, and, honestly, the condescending tone of the average evangelical non-smoker makes me want to light one up right then and there, as it did before I smoked.

I smoke a cigarette after meals purely for pleasure. (Recently, I had a recurrence of ulcerative colitis on which nicotine can have a positive effect).
There is some research (usually suppressed) that smoking in moderation (3-4 cigarettes per day is not harmful to one's health.Like (1)

If the world told you to go shoot yourself in the head, with a loaded .38, would you listen to them, and do what they say?

Feels good. It's always there for you, even when nobody else is. You know exactly what you're getting, no betrayal involved. Also, screw the world.

Here's my lame excuse... I gave up everything (almost) that was killing me. Now.. I am just trying to die quicker...

Because it used to be a free country where other people's opinions and beliefs had no bearing on what I as an American thought said or did within reason. It's my own personal protest.

I do. I do it because I enjoy it and feel it's my right to smoke whatever I want, whenever I want. Note that I did not say wherever. As with most fun stuff when done in moderation things are fine. Of course if you're smoking three packs a day nothing good can come of that. Whenever I see those new commercials featuring amputations and tracheotomies from smoking I always ask one question, "HOW MUCH WERE YOU PEOPLE ******* SMOKING?".
The militant non-smokers act as if you take one puff off a cigarette and you'll die of lung cancer or get hopelessly addicted. Smoke in a park and you're obviously putting everyone in a 200 ft radius at risk of secondhand smoke. Smoking in a bar? You'll be regaled with "Would you put that out? I'd like to try to drink my problems away without dying of cancer!" Mad that I'm smoking by an entrance? Maybe if that wasn't where the ashtray was I'd move.
You don't want your kids smoking, you don't want it near them, this I understand; but you can't shelter them from it their whole lives. It also makes very little sense to worry about cigarettes when the pollution in some cities is just as harmful if not more so than secondhand smoke. Where's the outrage over that? We get it, it's bad for us, but that's what makes it so good.Like (1)

Whoa, light up and chill out man. Why would you intentionally come to this question just to say that it's not anybody else's business, when you could just not answer?Like (1)

Smoking is stupid. I smoke and I know that and everyone knows that. But "the world" and I don't agree on many other things and that's that.

Because I do what I want not what the world wants. It's called being an individual.
