Possibly a sociopath, as it would be considered a parasitic life style.

I think it's a sign of laziness and resignation, because the gold digger is living with the assumption that he or she could never (or doesn't want to) make it on their own.

No. Its called survival. Even if being one is parasitic in nature.
Some people have the brain, the skills and experience to get to where they want to in life. Others have to make do with what they have around them and for them sometimes, it's taking from others.
(I know a few gold diggers)

I dont think its all that bad. I dont care for gold-diggers however I can see where they serve a purpose and I can see where its similar to some of the traditions of long ago...lol I myself would not want one though unless I was really filthy rich.

Sorry but cause and effect here, trophy wife/girlfriend one side of the argument and gold digger the other. How many rich men do you see with plain Jane wives/girlfriends? They want the beautiful women hanging off their arms, well some women got wise to it and aim to get as much as they can as possible while their looks, his money and attention span lasts.

I've heard it said "it's just as easy to fall for a rich guy as it is a poor guy". But maybe that does not technically describe a golddigger.

It depends on whether your mining certification and safety measures are up to date. If so goldmining can be lucrative, although often nothing more than gambling
