Absolutely, I'm in high school and the kids that didn't learn any languages in elementary school are struggling to pick up a 2nd language and I'm on my 4th one, but only fluent in 3.

Yes, because their minds are more flexible at an early age.

Learning a second language can never be bad. It can open doors later in life, assuming the child can keep it up and not lose the second language from lack of use. Retaining it is key, but once learned, it should be easy to pick it up again.

Why wait so long? Take your toddlers to Spanish or Asian markets, watch the Spanish channel with them, pick up bilingual books and dvd's at the library. There's also the internet, and some free apps. Opportunity is everywhere.

I definitely think that children should learn as much as they can while still in Elementary school even if it means 3 to 4 languages.
My brother is only 6 but speaks 3 languages fluently and learning another 2

There is evidence I think to support the view that the earlier children learn to speak another language, the more proficient they become at it, and I believe there's currently a move to re-introduce modern foreign languages into the curriculum of UK primary schools. However, there are also disturbing reports of English primary schools where the majority of pupils don't speak English as their first language and there's an argument for saying that tackling that should be more of a priority.

Sure, it's easier to teach kids when they are younger.

Absolutely! Especially since schools have students from so many countries. I believe it will help kids communicate and interact with kids from all nations and grow up with a strong mind and good will.

With multiculturalism on the rise in England. My friends tells me his 4yr old daughter is already picking up Polish and Arabic from the pre-school.(Other children) I think it will become normal in future years.

I could definitely see it being an advantage to learn another language at the same time they're learning to read and write in their primary one, the way students do in other countries. They're more likely to become fluent in that second language and retain it.

They should definitely have the OPTION of learning a second language in elementary school, but it shouldn't be mandatory. Some people aren't going to ever have much use for a second language.

YES! When I was in first and second grade I lived in Florida and we learned Spanish.
Little kids catch on so quick. It is a great idea.
I moved with my family several times so I didn't have an opportunity to take a second language until high school and college and I found it much more difficult!
The brain of a child is like a sponge, it can absorb so much knowledge with little effort!
