As long as you're not going to ignore the pet when you find a new relationship. Pets are a commitment and a responsibility, not a toy you can toss away when you're bored.

Get a pet if you are interested in spending time with the pet. Otherwise, don't get one.

Ya I am interested in spending time with the pet. I'm home a lot anyway, when I'm not at school

Yes a puppy is a great way to meet people. I would go for a cat personally less of a time commitment.

Doggies and kitties make a good pet always, 'cause they only ask to be loved!...and rabbits....and ferrets, too!!!

Yes, because you get to show care for another being, and you will also receive love. Just don't try to make it a substitute for what you loss.

I didn't lose anything. I've gained a lot from the relationship even though we decided to take our separate paths. The pet would be there as source of warmth and loving attention

Somehow I just don't think calling a replacement mate a pet is going to work out well at all : )

I'd never consider a past or future mate my pet.

Not if that's the only reason. But pets in general are good for those that like them.
