Do you think horse racing is cruel?

Many animal activist protest horse racing,as there are so many injured horses. Do you believe it's managed well enough?

CuriosityKitten	Posted Apr 4th, 2009 at 9:15PM I live in an area where horse racing is the thing we're known for. Our area was built upon horse racing. And I think it's incredibly cruel. The owners of these horses don't care about the wellbeing of the animals, it's all about the money and fame. They are forced to race in extreme heat and humidity and I have seen too many horses having to be put down because of broken ankles, one even having been put down on national television (Eight Bells). I think horse racing is a cruel and unethical treatment of these beautiful creatures. Rated: +4Vote for this!

edgargeorge	Posted Apr 4th, 2009 at 4:32PM I don't think it is cruel. Horses race each other in the wild. But I do object to racing horses so young, before they are fully grown. It's like letting 12 year olds compete in gymnastics in the olympics -- they are tiny and can really tumble, but it can cause permanent damage to their bones. Rated: +1Vote for this!

Issac95	Posted Apr 4th, 2009 at 4:35PM Manipulating the nature of a creature to make it do tricks? No worse than zoo's or having a pet dog or cat. I'm not as empathetic towards animals as I once was so it doesn't bother me, machines among nature, and all some such ideas. We personify animals and treat them as equals, when of course, they are not. Rated: +1Vote for this!

Sweetcitywoman	Posted Apr 4th, 2009 at 4:53PM I don't agree with it much at all. And we saw many deaths here at one of our two race tracks. What I disapprove of even more are the hoses that are made to pull carriages down town, to carry people who think it's so romantic ! They are forced to deal with cars at a somewhat fast speed passing them, blowing horns, sirens, not to mention their bodies weren't made for concrete ! Rated: +1Vote for this!
