I think humans are meant to have relationships. Whether those relationships happen to be healthy is another matter entirely.

I'm reminded of a story about a woman from a Yanomamo-like tribe who moved to NYC. Reporters came out and interviewed her and asked what it was like to move from the stone age to the big city. She said she like cars and fast food, but what struck her the first time she looked out on a crowed street was how lonely all the people looked.

Here was a woman who had grown up surrounded by the same 30 people her entire life seeing perhaps one stranger a year and she'd never felt that kind of loneliness. The whole idea that people could be so lonely in a crowd had never occurred to her. I don't think relationships are the problem, its the lifestyles we live and all crap society throws at us that's just no substitute for authenticity and intimacy.

I think it is the other way around. Humans are meant to have relations of all kind.

Actually no, humans are very much meant for relationships. Our emotions probably developed as lenses in order to give us shortcuts toward navigating the natural world. Among these emotional lenses were included ones to help us in social interactions with each other. It was never perfect, but at the same time we've come very far from the environments that these emotions developed in. Thankfully, we still posses the faculty of good reasoning, if anyone actually chooses to use it.
