Do you think I was drunk when I did it is a viable excuse?

I do not believe being drunk is an excuse to get away with bad behavior, I have been drunk and I still know when I'm being an asxxhole, I just don't care, so I choose not to get drunk very often and not when I'm already in a bad mood, choices people, responsibilitygrown up behavior

Simply put, no. Chances are there was nobody putting a gun to your head and making you take that extra shot or help yourself to another drink...it was your choice. "I was drunk" is a flimsy excuse for acting like an idiot that college students use. And, for little things, its laughed off because everyone has been there. But, for serious things, such as violence or doing someone (even yourself) harm, the 'I was drunk' excuse doesn't fly with me.

It could serve as an explanation, but not an excuse.

The only thing it excuses is being drunk "sorry I am drunk, I thank it is from being drunk." The rest is all on you babe.

No way is that a good reason for anything except maybe violent vomiting. I am not trying to make light of your pain, but in some, alcohol drops people's inhibitions and makes them feel invincible. Do not accept it as an excuse for domestic violence.

No. When you're drunk you don't do anything that you haven't already thought of. Being drunk simply lowers your inhibitions to the point where you no longer care about the ramifications of your actions.

No, No, No.....

It's a common excuse though, for someone caught either cheating, or for someone who abused someone else....All it is, is that person refusing to be accountable for their own actions....passing the buck.....

If you made the choice to put that drink up to your mouth....it was a conscious decision, therefore, anything that happens as a result of that....is your responsibility....
Also, by the way....I learned that alcohol is not what causes someone to abuse.....it may make the abuse worse, but the core belief system of the abuser is faulty....and that's why they abuse.

It is what it is.

Drinking makes you say and do lots of dumb *** things. Remember: you don't get take backs.

It is never an excuse. Alchohol may loosen your inhibitions...but you still have control over your actions.

Nope. It's not a good excuse. People get drunk and use it as an excuse. But, like you said, you still know when you're behaving badly. Someone close to me is an alcoholic. For years he got drunk, and acted like a jerk. Then he quit drinking and acted like a jerk. So, not only do I think it's a bad excuse, it's an excuse I refuse to accept.
