Interesting topic. When I was in middle school I developed A very serious eating disorder. Only one friend knew at first, but somehow it got around, and by the end of ninth grade nearly all of my female friends had some level of eating disorder. It honestly offended me, and I stopped speaking to many of them, as they became triggers. I don't know why it happened like that, or if it was just coincidence, but it was like my illness was contagious.

It can be. Folie à deux is pretty common among close couples, although it is only diagnosed when it becomes threatening to someone. Bouffée délirante is also pretty common among religious groups.
