Oh. So in the realm of foreign relations with nations who do not like you, words magically change definition? This realm must be similar to the realm of theoretical capitalist-centered economics.

Not at all. Islam may be called a religion of peace by some, and it may even be true. But the fact remains that the fanatical sect of Islam is the reason for many people being killed. Maybe that is the peace they mean. The US are considered "infidels" by the Islamic sects because the US do not live according to the tenants of Sharia Law. Whether the US are good people, helpful people, charitable people or not, Sharia Law dictates that we are infidels, and infidels are to be cast down. The fanatical Muslims actually take this to mean THEY are the ones charged to do the act. The "normal" Muslims may harbor this belief, but are more or less sane.

I think the US is respected far more today it was 4 years ago. Most of the world had very little respect for the US whilst Bush was in power. We couldn't believe how American's could be so stupid as to vote in such an ignorant piece of shite.

I hope that this isn't a closeted comparison of the Bush Adm. Vs Obama Adm... If so, what was happening just before 9/11/2001? And what's the answer to your question covering that time?

Islamists loathe the Anglo American creation of the Israeli state in 1947. No matter who the figurehead may be here, there s bitter resentment and little to no respect for America and its Middle Eastern foreign policy and meddling.

The Saudi's and Aramco are loosing control. The true "Persians" have grown restless and seek to rid the American "beast" from the Holyland. Just like in days of old, the Empire or remnants of it stretch from Western Africa into Bangladesh, Pakistan and now even Indonesia.

What complicates matters is that some extremists have money and they can buy nukes from financially starved Russia, China and the black market.

Boots on the ground cause fear... Respect? Remember, we sent Madeleine Albright, Condi Rice and Hillary into tradition laden sharia law countries where women are looked upon as baby makers, not rulers or policy negotiators.

    Respect really...

The respect Islamic countries give the US is proportional to the money and arms they get from us. I don't think they're feeling as much respect as they did four years ago, but it's hard to tell. There's a lot of negotiations going on that we are not privy to. If anything, they're probably more respective to the US for Facebook. Therein lies their potential freedom, not in arms.

I don't know, although I'd expect so. But the US is twice as popular with secular democracies though. Who do you want to impress?

Really, why? We killed Osama, we bomb the crap out of them with drones. They might hate us a little more, but I don't think they ever respected us.

Its fear. Fear usually leads to hate. And I'm sure they fear the US now.

Here is what I think from living in the ME for 6 years. As with any country, the political posturing is often 180 degrees different than what most of the population thinks.

Fear has been our currency in the region for decades going back to the dictators that we've supported when it's been deemed in our interests. We've bombed the hell out of that region and occupied two different countries for over a decade. Respect is the foundation of the relationship the U.S. has with its closest allies, and that doesn't resemble anything we have with most countries in the Middle East.
