I can't tell if this is condescension, empathy or something else. The amount of extra work online communication requires is one of the things which gives me pause here, as fascinated as I am by EP.

I guess I knew it was condescension or I wouldn't have written it first. I had to pay this answer though. It was the one that made me think twice. It seemed like the Zen koan answer. For how can I ask this question (even without negative attachments) and not be seen as a victim?

The people I talk to on EP are the only friends I have.

The word friends is so kindergarten but that's what the Social Directors keep pushing for lack of a better word. There's a lot of great people here and whether they want to communicate or not is not the worry of the day for me. Even those that want to air their superiority through quoting scriptures offer me a distraction from the daily routines of boring life. So i for one am here because you are here, why add any worries to that.

nope. Sometimes it's better to have few friends than have many friends you can't keep.

nope. not here to make friends. too old for that nonsense. if i see someone who i think is interesting and intelligent i will then put in a friend request, but so far no go. not interested in the snarky, inane and sometimes unintelligible nonsense that passes for fun around here. guess i'm deep in old fartdom. who cares, the stories are fascinating

Is friend request the same as becoming a fan?
