I guess it depends on how often/why you're doing it! If you're freakishly paranoid all the time, no matter what, you may want to work on that. Checking text messages ain't gonna cure your ills.
I've found myself looking through my husband's phone for two reasons:
1) I was bored
and
2)I was suspiscious he was cheating,

He doesn't have any issue with me looking (and he can look at mine), so looking out of bordome isn't any big deal.

When I was looking out of suspiscion, you'd better BET he was screwing around! I'm not a paranoid person, so when my gut says something is wrong, I pay attention!

There shouldn't be a reason to look through their stuff, trust should be part of the relationship and if it isn't then it's time to leave that relationship.

Snooping is always wrong. If there is no trust; there really is no relationship.

It is a significant invasion of privacy and a horrid breach of trust. If I learned a girlfriend did that to me, it would be over the moment I learned, but maybe I value my privacy more than most.

It depends if they do it to you. But then again they might have and you did not know about it......

It's only wrong if I don't have a valid reason to do so.

No not at all-it's a great tracking device :). (If they are really smart they will delete their cheating tracks anyway).

I do think it is wrong, unless, of course, you have his permission.

And it's really sort of insecure and needy in a way, also...

Yes, I think it's WRONG. It's an invasion of privacy and an indication of insecurity and distrust on your part. He doesn't go through my things unless invited to and I don't go through his things. It's called respect.

Well, why are you looking? My initial answer would be not really because if you are truly in a loving relationship where you trust each other then it doesn't matter, it's the same as picking up your own phone.... If you are looking because of suspicion then there is probably a deeper issue in the relationship. The only time I go through my guys phone is if I am replying for him or something random.. I never need to look to know that he isn't doing anything wrong. If someone NEEDS to look, well, they should probably just leave the relationship because that suspicion rarely will ever subside, I know from personal experience.. or it will subside once you catch him red handed, that wasn't fun either...
