Do you think long-term goal setting is a good thing? Like, 5 years down the road? Or should we just go with the flow?

I am for the latter. I hate in interviews when they ask you where you want to be in 5 years. Because personally, I only want to be wherever the universe feels is most beneficial for me to be. Short term goal setting is fine I think, like "This week I will pay off my car" or "I will work towards loving myself more" or "I will not eat ice cream for a month". But why plan out our lives years ahead of time? Isn't that kind of... not living in the now?
Opinions!

I've spent my whole live not planning or goal setting. I think it depends on your personality type. For some people plans are very helpful, for others... plans are annoying.

Yeah, thats how I see it. Some people love schedules and plans and can't function well without them. I feel like life is boring if its planned out though. I love the unexpected :)

I'm with you... let the universe take me where it needs to go and I just try to watch for signs or clues telling me if I'm headed in the right/wrong direction.

I think a balance of both is good, a framework to guide you, but be flexible to meet changing conditions. Let the framework guide not dictate.

Training someone is expensive - even if it's a lie, they want to hear that your goals include staying with that company long term.

I believe in both living for the day as well as planning for the future (such as financial savings or investments)

No goals in my life so far. had a great time too. I have been happy to be here. However, my most recent love was concerned that i lacked the kind of direction that goals provide. So I thought of it and have come up with a few goals--short term--it's a new experience and fun. Might even try to work a long term goal in sometime. it's fun to change your tack now and then. I say give it a try and if you don't enjoy it...back to your original m.o.

I heard a good saying once. "If you want to hear God laugh, make a plan." But I think its a bit more accurate to say "If you want to hear God laugh, expect your plan to go exactly as you plan it." hehe.
