Hmmm. We, as a society, believe that taking the life of another is wrong. We find you guilty of taking the life of another. Therefore, we will take your life. Hmmm....

Most executions are just punishment, but they ought to be done in the center of the city on the public square. Hiding justice is not justice.
What is state sanctioned murder is all the occasions where the police just blow someone away without law or trial.
Most of the pretend "suicide in jail" is also just murder.

I think that state sponsored murder is ok, John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Timothy McVeigh if Adam Lanza didn't kill himself would be in that group. Some people show so much disregard for human life that society owes them NOTHING

Executions are state-sanctioned murder. They taint the soul of the nation, and they keep alive the idea that it is perfectly acceptable to kill in order to solve a problem.

OK lets agree that murder is "illegal killing".
Execution is killing, but a killing sanctioned by the ruling government
Then you have to ask if the state is honest and not corrupt and that it is not run by a depraved dictator.
In a legal democratic society, the people through their governments have a right to define and agree rules and laws. That state also has a right to define appropriate punishments for those who break those rules and in some extreme cases the penalty may be death.
In some corrupt regimes, "the state" executes people for their own reasons. It may on the face of it eb declared a state sanctioned execution, but if an execution is sanctioned to keep a corrupt government in power, to eradicate opposition, to enable them to siphon money out of the economy, to give top jobs to their strutting family members it is just as much murder as a man who commits rape or murder when he is drunk for example.
So state sanctioning of execution doesnt mean it is right.
Thee is another element to that argument. Having seen documentaries about life sentenced prisoners in the US prison system, where they seem to be scared of attack at any moment from gangs that control the prisons from the inside, is it possible that rather than a life sentence, a prisoner could ask to be given a leathal injection rather than spend the next 30 or 40 years living like that with no hope of ever getting out?

I fully believe in the death penalty. no, no one close to me has been murdered.
If one is found guilty due to hard, actual evidence then buh-bye... why should that person retain the right to life when they took one maliciously.
there are exceptions, home invasions, rape etc... if one is killed in self defense then same rules don't apply because of lack of malicious intent.
just my 2¢.

Its murder and executions are not a deterent ....personally i believe that the prision population are full of people who had sad lives or been abused themselves and or the mentaly ill. i know there are some truly bad people also....it costs more to resolve peoples problems much easier for the government just to kill them or keep them in prison. I dont have all the answers and this is not an indepth account...just a basic opinion.
