Both is fine, if it's what you want to waste your time on. I've taken this type of training and it was useless. I already knew how to kick a guy in his "crime scene". Try doing that when he's hopped up on adrenaline. Not every man doubles over in pain immediately. I was also told that if I survived, I did the right thing. Oh, and I was taught how to smash his face with my purse. Seriously? Come on! Even my grandma could fight better than that!

So I called up a special forces friend of mine and told him about the training. When he stopped laughing, he agreed to help me out. While surviving is good, I personally would rather HE have the mindset of, "If I can get out of this alive, I've done the right thing."

I think it should be banned. Nothing of any real value can be taught in nine hours and without constant training those skills can't be maintained. To get the first grade in most arts you need 30-50 hours of training and generally a student isn't considered competant until over 200 hours of training. The other rule of thumb is that you need to practice something 10,000 times before it becomes engrained in muscle memory which is where it needs to be. You can't be on an adrenalin rush and trying to remember how to do that technique you learned three years ago, your body needs to know what to do without you having to tell it.

To develop the speed, power and balance needed to execute any technique effectively not to mention to develop the psychology and confidence needed to fight off someone bigger and stronger than you takes far longer than nine hours. All they're doing is making people feel safe which means they'll be standing there thinking they can defend themselves when they should be running for their lives.

Leave to the girls. My ex wife & daughter went thru it & the night they graduated I told the instructor that he could teach them anything he wanted because what I knew was better. He asked what I knew. I replied, "I can run faster scared than they can mad & thats all I need to know!"
