... something like a cultural flag themselves?

You may imagine that by such a means people don't really express who they are but merely reflect the culture(s) from which they obtained the idea(s).

For instance, if tattoos, certain hair cuts, dressing styles, cars, learned social behavioural patterns, attitudes, etc are expressions or examples of people's cultures or micro cultures, then might those who would use them as a means to reflect a certain image of themselves with regards to a certain identity they wish to cultivate become, in an effort to express their individuality, expressions of the culture(s) itself(themselves)? One might think this defeats any real object of distinguishing oneself by such a means in terms of a unique identity.

    yeah you are right. There can never be any uniqueness which is not related to social and cultural environment. The collective aspects of acts is always there. people are cultural products
